Reverend Father Amos Quansah, newly appointed Secretary and Bursar to the Society of African Mission (SMA) Ghana province, has pledged to justify the need for youth inclusion and appointment in various organizations in the country.
According Fr. Quansah, his achievements and legacies as the youngest Priest to occupy such high office at SMA will challenge and change perceptions many hold that youth lack expertise and experience to occupy high positions.
“I am representing myself as well as representing the image of the youth who are young priests. So my legacy is that I will do the right thing and put in my effort and make sure that any plan we set forth will be achieved”, he added.
The priest further vouched to make sure the image and positions of the youth, especially the young priests so far as positions are concerned in the church remain relevant and faded not.
“My achievements should be something that will be appreciated and recommended more for years to come because if I do not do well or if I am not able to work to expectations maybe this position will not come back to any young priest again. So it is left to me to justify that the young priest can also function and bring in new ideas to help the church”.
The 33 year old Ghanaian priest who has been appointed as Secretary, Communication director and Bursar of Ghana SMA province disclosed his office will also trumpets the Catholic Church achievements and activities to the rest of the world.
“People should know what the SMA has done and that is why as a secretary and communication director, I am going to use the media a lot to let people know what the Catholic Church has done in Ghana, Fr. Quansah stressed.
This he believed will help people know that the church has been proactive over the years.”
Being the first and the youngest Ghanaian to occupy this position since the SMA Ghana Chapter was upgraded from region to province Fr. Quansah indicates his readiness to also comment on Social ills and issues especially moral decadence that is gradually gaining momentum among some youth in the country.
Recounting on the recent past incidence where some students participating in the going West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) were seen in a viral video insulting examination officials and the president of the republic, the Rev. Father says such canker must not be allowed to suffice.
He disclosed he shall not remain shut speaking on moral issues.
“I will also make sure that I air my views so far as other national issues are concerned so that the church will not be so much silent on issues that are affecting the people we evangelize to”; Fr. Quansah.
Describing his appointment as surprise and a dream comes through so early; Fr. Quansah disclosed his preparedness to learn from those above him.
“I am young for this position. Ideally, they have to appoint an experienced person or someone who has the expertise because this is the highest position but I am very happy for this appointment because it is also a way for me to learn from those ahead of me, especially those I have been placed under to work for the betterment of Ghana mission and the mission of the church at large.”
Fr. Quansah Outline his plans as the Bursar, Secretary and the communication director of Ghana SMA province.
“I will really be involved in communication that has to do with the SMA and the church, and then I will be fully involved in the social media to make sure that the church members and the general public get to know what the SMA is doing, like what the catholic church is doing and what the church in the world as a whole is doing.
I will also be very active on Facebook and other social media platforms to see to it that new rules concerning the church and what the church is broadcasting are explained.
I will really engage the youth especially the Catholics to be active in things relating to the church and the moral life that is also gradually coming down. I will like to talk on moral issues more so that the youth will get to learn a lot since catechism is about the teachings of the church and things that are not frequently explained to the youth of today so that they will get more explanation to what is happening in the church and some of the teachings and doctrines that are simply not explained to the people often.
Using my social media handle influence, I will be explaining some of these things to them and then through Radio Angelus and other social media platforms that I will have the opportunity to have access to.
Also, there are a lot of projects that SMA is undertaking so far as Ghana mission is concerned which is one of our priorities, so I will make sure that people are called on with their expertise so that we can have good programs and projects to help the mission of Ghana and the masses as a whole.
The purpose of SMA is to evangelize to the people of Ghana and to make sure that through evangelization we bring good social amenities and the welfare of the people and also make sure that education and health issues are addressed.
As a Bursar, I will write a lot of projects so that we can get funds to help us get things done as expected”, he outlined.
The Provincial Council is the highest office so far as SMA is concerned in Ghana. According to Fr. Quansah It is also an intermediary through which Ghana mission can communicate with Rome and vice versa.
“If anybody comes to Ghana and wants to make anything that has to do with the SMA MISSIONS and activities, I have to be the person to give that information. Likewise, if Ghana Province is writing to or receiving a letter from Rome, it has to come to my office first. So it is a very delicate area”, Again as secretary l function as the communication director of the SMA Ghana province and l serve as a link between the SMA and other religious congregations,he emphasized.
I will also make sure that any communiqués from the Catholic Bishops Conference are explained and brought to the doorsteps of all the faithful at least in a 3 to 5 minutes video.
“If Catholic Bishop Conference releases communiqué to the public, it must be explained to people. Somebody should come out to explain or even summarize it in 3 or 5 minutes and let people hear it on Facebook and other social media platforms. That is also part of my plan which I think I will take it upon myself to do that” Fr. Quansah added. The position which was officially made known on 11th of July, 2020 is expected to last for six years.
