Bro. Stephen Celebrates His 40 years of religious Vows

The colorful 40th-anniversary celebration of religious vows for Bro. Stephen Domelevo, SVD, recently took place at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Osu. The celebration was witnessed by fellow jubilarians; Most Rev. Bishops Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, Gabriel Edoe Kumorji, SVD, Rev. Frs. Andrew Anumu Quaye-Foli, SVD and Gabriel Sosu, SVD, priests, Religious, the Arnoldus family, Domelevo Family, Friends and well-wishers.

Most Rev Bishop Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, SVD Bishop of Yendi, thanked God for His protection upon the lives of the jubilarians for their commitment to the Lord. In his homily, he entreated all to show love to one another just as Jesus loved and died for us.

Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Anumu Quaye-Foli, SVD and Bro. Stephen Domelevo, SVD, renewed their commitment to God, as Divine Word Missionaries, a Vow of evangelical poverty, consecrated chastity and apostolic obedience to God and the Provincial Superior of the Divine Word Missionaries, Ghana-Liberia province, Rev. Fr. Cyprian Kuupon, SVD.

Bro. Stephen is a generous religious brother who served wholeheartedly to the glory of God. He has a positive influence on the lives of many. At his anniversary celebration, loved ones from far and near were not left out. They celebrated with Bro. Stephen and his fellow jubilarians.

Rev. Fr. Andrew Anumu Quaye-Foli, SVD and Bro. Stephen Domelevo SVD were the only two among the 4 Jubilarians who renewed their vows. Many may ask why? The superior of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), Ghana Liberia Provence, Very Rev. Fr. Cyprian Kuupol, SVD, explained to the congregation that “At the beginning of the mass, Most Rev Bishop Kofi Fianu, told us that those who are present were 4, who took their first vows, at the renewal we realized that only two renewed their vow. It is because the two bishops are exempted from renewing their vow, particularly the vow of obedient and the vow of poverty.”

The vow of obedient; they are exempted because their authority is higher than the Provincial Superior and if they are not exempted, they have to be consulting their superior before they can take any action even in their diocese.

The vow of Poverty; they are exempted, if not, the Dioceses will be the Property of the Divine Word Missionaries. With that, whatever they will get becomes the property of the Divine Word Missionaries.

The provincial superior of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), Ghana Liberia Provence, Very Rev. Fr. Cyprian Kuupol, SVD, congratulated the jubilarian for the life of witness they have lived. He said religious vow is nothing but a life of witness and making the kingdom of God present among the people of God. He entreated them to strive like their founder to make people experience the kingdom of God.

The Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), whose mission is to give themselves to others, is the largest international missionary congregation in the Catholic Church. They preach the Gospel and share the Word of God by living, working, teaching, and sharing with others in many areas of global ministry.
