Pope explains in general audience the role of the Holy Spirit in prayer

Francis recalled that “without the Holy Spirit it is not possible to relate to Christ and to God the Father.”

Through grace, says the Pope, “the Holy Spirit transforms us and makes us experience the joy of knowing that we are loved and inhabited by God.”

“Our mission as Christians is to keep alive the fire that Jesus brought to earth, that is, the love of God. Without this fire, fire of the Spirit, sadness replaces joy, service becomes slavery and routine replaces love ”, he concluded.

SUMMARY OF CATECHESIS IN SPANISH

Dear brothers and sisters:

In this catechesis we continue to reflect on prayer as a relationship with the Holy Trinity, and in particular with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the fundamental gift of the Christian life. If we can invoke God calling him “Abba – Dad” it is because the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Without Him it is not possible to relate to Christ and to the Father.

Just as Abraham, who, giving hospitality to three travelers, met God, the Trinity of love, we too are called to open ourselves to his presence and welcome him into our lives.

The Holy Spirit transforms us and makes us experience the joy of knowing that we are loved and inhabited by God. It is the experience that the disciples of Jesus lived, and that the Gospel tells us.

And it is also the experience lived by so many men and women praying that the Holy Spirit shaped the measure of the Heart of Christ.

But let us not think that those who pray are only monks or hermits. How many ordinary people have found God in the Gospel, in the Eucharist and in their brothers, and each day they give humble witness of mercy, service and prayer.

Our mission as Christians is to keep alive the fire that Jesus brought to earth, that is, the love of God. Without this fire, fire of the Spirit, sadness replaces joy, service becomes slavery, and routine replaces love.

I cordially greet the Spanish-speaking faithful. Let us ask the Lord to inflame our hearts with the fire of the Holy Spirit.

May our life be like the lamp lit next to the tabernacle, which is consumed in praising God and serving our brothers, being joyful witnesses of his presence in the middle of the world. May the Lord bless you.
