Fr. Patrick writes : Return Home, to Your Root

A walk with God: Day 25: Return Home, to Your Root.

No matter what happens to us along our journey of life, and no matter where the motions of life takes us, we never forget the way to our home and our root. No wonder people get surprised when someone says he or she doesn’t know where they hail from. As Christians, God is our home and our root. The solace one finds upon their return home from wherever they have travelled to is the same feeling as when we return to God. He awaits us to comfort, refresh and replenish us.

This season calls for conversion, a return to God, our home. Home always accepts who and what we are. It is our effort to accept God and His will in our lives and God’s readiness to accept us which makes it a pleasant reunion. Our roots help us to know who we are, and since we were created in God’s image and likeness, we need to know Him more. Thus the more we know Him, the more we know ourselves. We know God through our frequent interactions with Him through prayer and the Word.

Lent is an opportune time to discover ourselves as we discover who God really is. That’s why we need to pray more and spend more time reading the scripture and meditating on it. As we pray, our relationship with God grows in trust and we can have peace in whatever challenges we are facing. A tree cannot stand firm without its roots, and that is why St. Augustine said “For my soul is restless until it rests in God.” Are you connected to your root as a Christian?
