Fr. Patrick writes: The Plan of God

A walk with God, Day 32: The Plan of God

Lent is a special moment we seek life out of sin, and it’s by no mere coincidence that today we celebrate the stepping of God into our human nature- the Incarnation. It is God’s perfect plan to walk with, lift up, redeem and save mankind- God becoming one like us in all things except sin. This is a hopeful sign for us that sin doesn’t have the last laugh. In fact, our hearts should be filled with joy and gratitude for what God did for us.

Today, we celebrate how God takes the initiative to save us when we were dead in sin and have lost our way back “home”. The Annunciation of the Lord is a perfect solemnity in the Lenten season, for it teaches us that God always has a plan for us out of sin. We didn’t know how to save ourselves and didn’t know our bearing. This is because our ears were deaf to the Word of God which is our compass to God and our eyes were also blind to the light of God from His Word.

God could have used other means to save us; yet He chose this excellent plan of coming to our level. It should lead us to contemplate how much God loves us and further urge us on to respond to this love. Mary, who made real this mystery of God becoming one with us in our nature, is a perfect model and teacher for us in this moment of grace, the season of Lent. She teaches us that all that God needs from us is our total, unconditional and complete availability in order to set into motion His plan of saving us and the world.

This changes everything, for it will create a new life in us and will bring joy to us and there will be even greater joy in heaven- for indeed, heaven rejoices when a sinner repents. Let’s have confidence and open our heart to God who desires in our salvation than our condemnation.
