Vatican and Gregorian University offer forum on Discernment in the Family

One of Francis’ priorities is to teach the art of discernment, which he thus defined during a general audience.

FRANCISCO
This does not consist in applying ready-made solutions, but rather it is an art: it is the exercise of spiritual intelligence with which we learn to see reality with a contemplative gaze and not to make hasty judgments, discovering in our lives the traces of the presence of God.

Precisely in his document “Amoris Laetitia”, which is 5 years old, the Pope speaks of discernment and says that at this moment the Church is called to “form the conscience of the people, not to replace it.”

“I believe that the Pope when in“ Amoris Laetitita ”puts the problem of discernment, on the one hand it is something prophetic, because it is something against cultural. On the other hand, it is the only way, because he says, when the schemes are broken, and the schemes have fallen apart, there is no choice but to discern ”.

Theologian Miguel Yáñez directs the diploma in family ministry at the Gregorian University.

For this reason, on the occasion of the Amoris Laetitita Family Year, it organizes, together with the Vatican’s Dicastery Laity, Family and Life, a Forum on Discernment in the family sphere.

It is an opportunity to teach families to apply discernment in day-to-day difficulties.

For two days, experts from fields such as Theology, Psychology or Sociology, will explain what discernment consists of and how it can help the family in these moments of crisis due to the pandemic.

“We are in a culture in which it is difficult to make decisions”.

“We want to try to enlighten, and give instruments, and encourage not only parents but everyone to realize or try to become aware of what things have to be decided, because if you do not decide, someone else will make the decision. in your place”.

Among the issues, they will address the relationship of adolescents with social networks or the increase in separations during the pandemic.

The idea is to teach not to look for ready-made solutions, but to understand in the light of faith what God expects of each one in the decisive moments of one’s life.

The meeting is open to all types of participants, it will be broadcast on YouTube and can be followed in Spanish, English and Italian.

THE MEETING WILL BE ON APRIL 23 AND 24.
