Cardinal Ladaria calls for a Europe “welcoming to all”

The European Union and the Vatican celebrate fifty years of diplomatic relations. To celebrate this, each country of the Union organizes a Mass with a Vatican representative from their nation. Spain has invited Cardinal Ladaria, who has indicated in San Pietro in Montorio how to build a common home.
CARD. LUIS LADARIA
Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
“A house that eliminates barriers, that is welcoming to all. Only in this way will Europe be faithful to its true roots, among which the Christian faith occupies a very relevant position ”.
During this half century of understanding, Europe and the Holy See have forged a close bond.
CARMEN DE LA PEÑA
Ambassador of Spain to the Holy See
“The main achievements have been to walk together on a series of very important issues to achieve a more just world and a more peaceful world.”
ALEXANDRA VALKENBURG-ROELOFS
EU Ambassador to the Holy See
“Multilateralism, the values we share as human rights, support for peace and security and climate change. I believe that we both have a strong position there, the Holy See and the European Union “
These celebrations are called “Iter Europeum”, or European way. Each country has chosen a church to which it is linked for historical reasons. It will last until June 27 and includes concerts and guided tours of these places.
Spain has chosen for this ceremony the church of San Pietro in Montorio, rebuilt by the Catholic Monarchs at the end of the 15th century.
