Pope and Christian leaders of Lebanon pray Our Father in Arabic for peace in the country
The Pope’s meeting with the Christian leaders of Lebanon began at the residence of Francisco, in Casa Santa Marta. It was 8:30 in the morning.
The first to greet him was Cardinal Boutros Raï, Maronite Patriarch.
Then Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church of Cilicia.
-Good Morning. How is it going?
-Well.
-It’s okay? … Thanks. I am so happy to be here.
After greeting all the participants, they left Casa Santa Marta and entered San Pedro.
The basilica was practically empty. They all stood before the main altar, that of confession. And there Francis sang the prayer par excellence that unites all Christians: the Lord’s Prayer.
Lebanon’s Christian leaders joined in.
They did so in Arabic and then remained for several minutes praying in silence.
Then they went down the stairs, to the crypt from where the tomb of Saint Peter is contemplated and they left a candle.
The representatives of the Christian Churches of Lebanon thus began the meeting for peace in their country. In an atmosphere of recollection and prayer.
The plan for the day includes three meetings in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican and the conclusion, again in St. Peter’s Basilica.
