The Pope, “sad” after the assassination of the president of Haiti

While recovering from the colon operation, Pope Francis has learned the news of the assassination of the president of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse.
For this reason, as usual, the Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, has sent a message on behalf of the Pope.
He says that Francisco “expresses his sadness and condemns all forms of violence as a means to resolve crises and conflicts. He wishes for the Haitian people a future of fraternal harmony, solidarity and prosperity ”.
The 53-year-old president was assassinated by gunmen at his home on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince.
Throughout these years, the Pope has shown several times his closeness to Haiti. In 2018, he met with President Moïse at the Vatican, and presented him with a medallion with this message of hope: “The desert will become a garden.”
FRANCISCO
“It is my wish for your country.”
In Haiti, four suspected assailants were killed in a shootout with security forces, and two others were arrested. The UN asks that they be tried according to the law.
STÉPHANE DUJARRIC
Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General
“The perpetrators of this crime must be brought to justice. The Secretary General calls on Haitians to preserve constitutional order, remain united in the face of this abominable act and reject all violence.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Northern Hemisphere. Now many fear that political turmoil will intensify after the assassination.
