Accra Archdiocesan Priests Stage Play to Raise Funds for Legacy of Hope Project
The Accra Archdiocesan Priests Association of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra recently staged a play titled “The Prophet of Doom” to raise funds for the completion of the Legacy of Hope Project.
The Project which is an initiative of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp is seeking to complete the Children’s Hospital at Adjen Kotoku in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
The event which was held at Christ the King Catholic Church, Cantonments, Accra, was not the first of its kind and attracted hundreds of Catholics eager to watch their priests perform on stage.

Adding to the evening’s solemnity was the Grace Choral Group who ministered melodious songs.
Rev. Fr. Raymond Osei-Tutu, Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra and Parish Priest of Ss. Anne & Joachim, Teshie, acted the lead role of Prophet Jeremiah, captivating the audience with his performance.
Inspired by the Book of Jeremiah, the play highlighted the prophet’s warnings to Israel, drawing equivalents to contemporary challenges in Ghana’s political and social landscape.
It served as a reflective commentary on societal attitudes, emphasizing that many of today’s struggles mirror those of Jeremiah’s time.

Addressing the audience, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and underscored the dual nature of Jeremiah as both a prophet of doom and a prophet of hope.
“It is not a coincidence that the Church has declared this year a Jubilee Year. Whether we are priests, religious, lay faithful, presidents, or kings, may we take the lessons from this stage play seriously. Let us strive to overcome the recurring attitudes of Jeremiah’s time so that we do not enslave ourselves as they did,” he stated.
