Fr. Joseph Okine-Quartey Named New Rector of St. Paul’s Major Seminary

St. Paul’s Major Seminary in Sowutuom, Accra, has a new leader at its helm. Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Okine-Quartey has officially been appointed as the substantive Rector of the seminary, a development that was met with enthusiastic applause during the recently held “2025 Journey to Calvary” event on April 12.

The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, His Excellency Archbishop Julien Kabore, made the announcement on behalf of the Dicastery for Evangelization. Fr. Okine-Quartey had been serving as the acting Rector prior to this appointment, which now confirms his leadership in a full and permanent capacity.

Reading from the official decree issued by the Dicastery, the Apostolic Nuncio declared:

“The Dicastery for Evangelization, having duly considered the recommendations of the appropriate authorities, hereby appoints Rev. Joseph Okine-Quartey of the Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi as the Rector of St. Paul’s Major Seminary, Sowutuom. This appointment shall remain valid until the Lord provides otherwise.”

The announcement was a moment of joy and celebration for the seminary community, with clergy, seminarians, and dignitaries expressing their support and excitement for Fr. Okine-Quartey’s continued leadership.

Fr. Dr. Okine-Quartey brings to the role a wealth of academic and pastoral experience. He earned his Doctorate in Philosophy from the Pontifical Urban University (Urbaniana) in Rome, a Licentiate in Philosophy, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and the Study of Religions from the University of Ghana, Legon.

His appointment marks a significant milestone for the seminary, as it looks ahead to continued growth in formation and theological excellence under his guidance.
