Bishop Asare Pays Pastoral Visit to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church

The church community of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sowutuom, an outstation of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Kwashiman, joyfully received Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, one of the Auxiliary Bishops of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

The celebration brought together priests, religious, parishioners, and special guests, during which 14 candidates from the community were confirmed.

In a welcome address, Mr. Remy Puoru, Parish Pastoral Council Chairperson, expressed appreciation to all who supported the church’s growth and mission.

He also made an appeal to the bishop for support and guidance in completing their church building.

He said, “Since the traditional method of raising funds will take about three years, we kindly seek your support and leadership as we develop as a church”.

“Your presence today is a source of encouragement. We are grateful for your leadership and spiritual guidance in the Archdiocese and look forward to your continued blessings”, he added.

In his homily, Bishop Asare reminded parishioners that their faith must take precedence over physical structures, emphasizing that the heart of worship lies not in grand buildings but in sincere devotion.

“As long as there is a roof over your head, that is enough to worship God,” he noted.

He also offered a reflection on how to listen to the homily, noting that “The homily is not a speech to be remembered or a lecture to be memorized. It is God’s word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, using human medium to speak directly to our hearts.”

He therefore encouraged the faithful to put everything else aside and give their full attention to the homily, allowing God’s word to truly speak to their hearts.

During the rites of confirmation , Bishop Asare urged the candidates to remain faithful to the teachings of the Church and to live out their Christian witness daily.

He presented rosaries to each confirmand and their catechists, encouraging them to build a prayerful life rooted in the love of Christ.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with an estimated membership of 700 parishioners, remains one of the most dynamic and thriving communities in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra.
