Newly Ordained Priests Receive Pastoral Appointments

The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has officially assigned pastoral roles to seven newly ordained priests, marking the beginning of their ministerial journey within the Church in Ghana.

The appointments, announced by the Archbishop’s Office, are scheduled to take effect from September 3, 2025.

The ordination ceremony was held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Odorkor, where Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, C.S.Sp., Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, led the sacred rite in the presence of a large gathering of faithful, clergy, and religious.

This year’s ordination comes at a time when the Archdiocese continues to experience rapid growth in its Catholic population, highlighting an increasing demand for pastoral care and missionary outreach across the region.

The new priests have been assigned as parochial vicars to various parishes. The appointments are as follows:

Rev. Fr. Isaac Kofi Dunyoh – St. Dominic Savio Parish, Afienya, Rev. Fr. Fredrick Asante Owusu – St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Ashaley Botwe, Rev. Fr. Michael Owusu-Amponsah – Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka, Rev. Fr. Peter Oppong-Ampofo – St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Tema Community 8, Rev. Fr. Roland Kwupoli Kajelo – St. Peter Claver Parish, Ada, Rev. Fr. Toussaint Nianza Wadia – St. Benedict Parish, Ofankor, Rev. Fr. Victor Yaw Ampim – St. Bakhita Parish, Lashibi, Community 20.

According to the official statement, the appointments form part of the Archdiocese’s ongoing effort to expand its pastoral reach and ensure that even the more remote or underserved parishes benefit from renewed priestly service and leadership.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Archbishop Kwofie, the Auxiliary Bishop Most Rev. Narh Asare hinted at broader personnel changes expected later in the year.

These will include transfers among existing parish priests as part of a larger strategic realignment aimed at revitalizing parish life and supporting the Archdiocese’s key pastoral goals.

The Archdiocese of Accra, known for its vibrant mix of urban parishes and rapidly growing Catholic communities, continues to experience strong vocations and active parish involvement.

The current appointments are seen as a vital investment in strengthening youth formation, catechetical instruction, and the Church’s wider social mission.

Parishioners are expected to welcome their new vicars by early September, as the Archdiocese looks to deepen its spiritual and pastoral presence across the capital.
