Archbishop Kwofie Confirms 84 At St. Barnabas Catholic Church

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie CSSp paid a pastoral visit to St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Haatso- Agbogba on Sunday, 28th September 2025, where he presided over a spirit-filled celebration marked by faith, fellowship, and a strong call to justice.

The Archbishop’s visit featured the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to 84 parishioners.

Addressing the candidates, the Archbishop reminded them that Confirmation is not just a ceremony but a commissioning to live as “soldiers of Christ” and witnesses of charity.

In his homily, Archbishop Kwofie also addressed national concerns, particularly the menace of galamsey (illegal mining), which he described as a threat to life and creation.

“As the Chief Shepherd of the people of Accra whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by the greed of a few, I cannot remain silent. When mercury and other toxic chemicals poison our soils, the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink, I must be concerned,” he said.

Drawing on the day’s first reading from the Prophet Amos, he emphasized God’s anger at social injustice and the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

“God wants all His creatures to sleep comfortably, not some on ivory beds while others lie on bare mats. God gets angry when the rich eat the fattest lambs while the poor don’t even have a bone to lick,” he declared.

He further condemned the commercialization of religion, stressing that “Holy Water and Blessed Oil are not for sale,” and urged Christians to remember their responsibility to the poor.

The celebration also featured the presentation of the parish’s state-of-affairs report to the Archbishop.
