Bishop Gyamfi and Bishop Fianu reelected to lead Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the next 3 years

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has reelected Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani, as President and Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, Bishop of Ho, as Vice President, to continue steering the affairs of the country’s Catholic bishops for the next 3 years.
This was announced by the Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, during the closing Mass of the 2025 Plenary Assembly of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference at St. Anne’s Cathedral in Damongo.
He said, “As one of the responsibilities, every three years when we gather, we pray and ask God for the Holy Spirit to guide us so that we can choose from among ourselves one who will lead us for the next three years.”
Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi and Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, have both served as President and Vice President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the past three years with selfless leadership.
According to Archbishop Palmer-Buckle, the Bishops have promised to support their leaders due to the good works they have shown for the past three years.
He noted, “With your prayerful support after a lot of consideration too we elected Most. Rev. Emmanuel Fianu, SVD to be our vice president. He is the Bishop of Ho Diocese. He was our vice president and because of the good works he is doing we decided to ask him for the next three years to be our vice president.”
He also called on all faithful to remember the Bishops’ Conference in prayer, stating, “It is my personal duty to request from you and responsibility that you pray for all the Bishops and most especially for our president and vice president for the next three years.”
The just ended 2025 Plenary Assembly of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference was themed, “A Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana”, which happened from 10th November to 14th November, 2025.
