DAY OF CONSECRATED LIFE CELEBRATED IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF ACCRA

The Day of Consecrated Life was celebrated in the Archdiocese of Accra on Saturday, 7 February 2026, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Madina. The celebration brought together over 200 religious men and women from various congregations.
The program opened with a talk by Rev. Fr. Dr. Andrews Obeng, SVD, Provincial Elect, on the theme “Sent to Witness: Living the Gospel Every Day.” In his presentation, Fr. Obeng emphasized that the very existence of consecrated men and women has a profound impact on the entire Church. He noted that religious life is neither isolated nor marginal but lies at the very heart of the Church as a decisive element of her mission.

He described religious institutions and houses as contemporary “mountains” where the Lord Jesus is present. According to him, Jesus first calls consecrated persons to himself, forms them, and then sends them forth. This sending, he explained, involves moving from the mountain into the plains of human need and conflict. Such a movement is kenotic, a self-emptying, carrying the presence cultivated in intimacy with Christ into spaces of spiritual poverty and suffering.
Fr. Obeng further stressed that consecration itself is a mission. The unique contribution of consecrated life to evangelization, he said, is the witness of lives totally given to God and to brothers and sisters, in imitation of Jesus, who, out of love for humanity, made himself a servant.
The celebration included the blessing of candles, followed by a candlelight procession within the church compound and into the church for the Eucharistic celebration.
The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Anthony Annan, CSSp. In his homily, he encouraged all consecrated men and women to be light in today’s world, especially in their workplaces and communities.

At the end of the celebration, Rev. Fr. Anthony Anomah, CSSp., President of the Conference of Religious Men and Women, expressed gratitude to all participants for their presence, collaboration, and commitment to consecrated life.
