BISHOP BOWERS SCHOOL MARKS 50 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

Bishop Bowers School, Lartebiokoshie, marked its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, 7 February 2026, with a grand ceremony celebrating five decades of academic excellence, faith formation, and service to the community.
The celebration was attended by the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp., the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, together with priests, religious sisters, alumni, students, staff, parents, and members of the surrounding community.

In his welcome address, the Assistant Headmaster, Mr. Robert Asare, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Archbishop and all guests. He noted that a vision planted 50 years ago to nurture young minds and shape responsible individuals had grown from a humble seed into a mighty tree.

Addressing the gathering, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp., thanked the school authorities, teachers, and staff for the invitation and commended them for their dedication over the years. He emphasized that Bishop Bowers School was founded on strong Catholic values and offers holistic education that goes beyond academic excellence to include character formation and social responsibility.
“Education is not just about passing examinations,” the Archbishop stated, “it is about forming the whole person, mind, character, and a sense of responsibility to society.” He urged parents to reclaim their role as first educators, called on the Church and educational authorities to remain consistent in their support, encouraged teachers to give their best in nurturing students, and challenged students to take their education seriously, seeing discipline as an essential part of their formation. He concluded by thanking parents for choosing Bishop Bowers School for their children’s education.

The Headmistress, Rev. Sr. Matilda Quist, SSpS, expressed gratitude to God for 50 years of holistic Catholic education. She recalled that the school was founded in 1975 by the Missionary Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) and has since provided quality education and moral formation, producing leaders who continue to make meaningful contributions to society. She highlighted the school’s commitment to discipline, integrity, service, and faith through strong academics, religious education, and sports. “As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary,” she said, “our hearts are filled with gratitude to Almighty God.”
In his address, the Head Boy Prefect, Master Emmanuel Tamakloe, called on his fellow students to uphold the school’s core values of honesty, discipline, and service as they celebrate 50 years of excellence.
The anniversary celebration featured cultural performances, choreographed dances, recitals, songs by the school choir, and a parade mounted by the school cadets to commemorate the milestone.

The Chairperson of the ceremony, Mrs. Theresa Ayoade, highlighted Bishop Bowers School’s 50-year legacy of faith, academic excellence, and community service, and congratulated the school on reaching this significant milestone.

As part of the anniversary activities, the school donated a bread moulding machine to support the City of God at Agbogbloshie. Rev. Fr. Shubash received the donation on behalf of the City of God.
Awards and citations were also presented to deserving students, staff, and parents in recognition of their dedication and service to the school.
