Francis explains the lessons that Moses gave in his old age
The Pope reflected on the teachings of Moses in his old age: “In the days before his death, Moses pronounced his spiritual testament, which is a beautiful confession of faith. His words not only bear witness to the love and fidelity of God, but also to the infidelities of his people”.
The Pope said that this spiritual testament is the “transmission of the faith” that must pass from generation to generation and recommended asking this question: “How do we transmit the faith to future generations? Do we give joyful witness to the presence of God in our life, knowing how to recognize, at the same time, our lack of coherence?
SUMMARY OF THE POPE’S CATECHESIS IN SPANISH
Dear brothers and sisters:
Today we reflect on the memory and testimony passed on by the elders, and we focus particularly on the story of Moses.
In the days before his death, Moses made his spiritual testament, which is a beautiful confession of faith. His words not only bear witness to God’s love and fidelity, but also to the infidelities of his people.
This transmission of faith and the meaning of life —which is done from one’s own experiences, without hiding the lights and shadows— is the tradition, which passes from generation to generation.
The Gospel also bears witness to the story of Jesus and the experiences of the disciples. He does it honestly, without hiding the frailties and even the betrayals of the followers of Jesus.
This leads us to ask ourselves: how do we transmit the faith to future generations? Do we give joyful witness to the presence of God in our lives, knowing how to recognize, at the same time, our inconsistencies?
I cordially greet the Spanish-speaking faithful, in particular the group of Colombian pilgrims “On the paths of Mary”. Following the example of Moses and the Virgin Mary, let us ask the Lord that our life be a song of praise for the wonders he does in us. And may this Magnificat be a joyful testimony and a grateful memory that transmits the torch of faith to new generations. God bless you. Thank you very much.
