“Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs” Grotto Dedicated to St. George Catholic Church, Police Depot
A new grotto, “Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Grotto” was blessed and dedicated to St. George Catholic Church, police Depot at Tesano on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
The 60-seater capacity structure, was constructed by Council 115 & Court 110, Airport West, Accra, of The Noble Order of The Knights and Ladies of Marshall and donated to the Church as part of their 10th Anniversary celebration projects.
The ceremony was led by Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, one of the Auxiliary Bishops of Accra, assisted by COP/Very Rev. Fr. George Arthur, Parish Priest, Chaplain- General of the Ghana Police Service, His Lordship Rev. Fr. Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman, Justice of The High Court and Asp. Daniel Boakye (Rtd.), PPC Chairperson.
Bishop Asare highlighted the altar and image of Mary as the two important things in the grotto emphasizing that the altar is permanent and will be used for the celebration of mass and must be treated with reverence. “The image of Mary makes the place sanctified” he said.

The ceremony included sprinkling of holy water, and consecration of the altar with chrism oil with an invocation of the Holy Spirit through spirit- filled songs.
Bishop Asare said, “In your quiet moment come and sit here and Mary will bless you.”
“The grotto is a place of prayer,” Bishop Asare stated and called on the Marshallans and all parishioners to be custodians of the grotto.
In his homily, he said, “When you do things for the church, you are not doing it for the human beings, you are doing it for the lord.

“Bishop Asare advised the Marshallans to continue to pray as they grow in faith, saying, “Don’t just provide the grotto but be there to pray yourself”.
He emphasized, “As church, every person counts,” explaining that each society or individual should actively participate in the Church’s growth and development, focusing on God.
According to Sister Naomi Asantewaa Effah, Noble lady of Court 110, the grotto “stands not only as a symbol of our devotion to our blessed mother Mary but also as a sanctuary of prayer, reflection and spiritual renewal of generations to come.
“Sister Naomi also explained that the grotto is named in homage to the countless officers in Ghana who laid down their lives daily in service of peace, justice, and security, reflecting on John 15:13.

She expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project’s success stating, “This grotto stands as a spiritual proof of our dedication.
“Sister Naomi, drawing inspiration from the Bible, encouraged other parishioners to join the Marshallans noting that “the harvest is ready, but the laborers are few”.
