Angelus: Francis asks to act in the face of one of the most forgotten crises on the planet

At the end of the prayer of the Angelus, the Pope recalled the great crisis that plagues the Ethiopian region of Tigray.

Its population has been ravaged by war for more than half a year and now faces a famine that, according to the UN, is the worst in a single country in the last decade. More than 30,000 affected by this crisis are children.

FRANCISCO
“There is a shortage, there is hunger there. Let us pray together so that the violence stops immediately, that food and health assistance be guaranteed to all and that social harmony is restored as soon as possible ”.

Francisco recalled that on Saturday the World Day Against Child Exploitation had been celebrated.

He said it is a drama that affects more than 150 million children around the world.

FRANCISCO
“It is a tragedy. 150 million: more or less like all the inhabitants of Spain, France and Italy combined. This happens today. You cannot close your eyes to the exploitation of children, deprived of the right to play, to study and to dream “.

The Pope also spoke of the migratory crisis in the Mediterranean. He recalled that that same afternoon, in Sicily, the remains of a terrible shipwreck were going to be exposed. It was in 2015 and hundreds of refugees and migrants were killed.

FRANCISCO
“May this symbol of many tragedies of the Mediterranean Sea continue to challenge the conscience of all and promote the growth of a more caring humanity, which will tear down the wall of indifference. Let us think about this: the Mediterranean has become the largest cemetery of Europe”.

Before praying the Angelus the Pope had explained the Gospel of the day. He stressed that a Christian should not be carried away by failures but put all his trust in God.
