God calls humans for greater works – Fr. George Obeng Appah

Very Rev. Fr. George Obeng Appah, on Saturday at the Archdiocesan priestly ordination, speaking on the theme, “Called to be shepherds”, said that God calls human beings for greater works to bring out the best in them.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, on Saturday ordained four reverends into the priesthood, among the priests who were ordained are; Rev Edward Asadare Agbeobila, Rev Anthony Senyo Kwesi Sefogah, Rev. Gabriel Obodia Torgbor, and Rev. James Danso Gyekye.

The event held at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka, Accra, in compliance with COVID-19 protocols, brought together priests, religious, family, friends and well-wishers who came to grace the ordination.

Speaking at the ordination, Very Rev. Fr. George Obeng Appah urged the ordinandees to continue to nurture their faith, be humble, to be true and sincere friends to each other.

“You don’t become a good shepherd by reading leadership books or attending leadership seminars. You become a good shepherd by reflecting on the one who has called you,” he added.

He further said that “every seminarian’s desire is to get to this day, every bishop’s desire, is to ordain men to share in his priesthood, every pastor’s joy is to see seminarian ordained and every family desire is to see their son ordained into the Holy Priesthood, but for the faithful of God, there cannot be any greater joy than the joy of having good shepherds to lead them as pilgrims in this barring land”.

To the ordinandees, he said the Lord has called them to shepherd for his people just as the prophet Jeremiah, “he is not calling you for the contest of the brave and strong, the beautiful and handsome, the brainy and intelligent, the popular and trendy, but a simple task of feeding the sheep”.
