SIX DECADES OF PRIESTLY SERVICE, MSGR. PIUS KPEGLO CELEBRATES A REMARKABLE MILESTONE

Msgr. Pius Kpeglo has marked 60 years of priestly service with a thanksgiving celebration, honouring his enduring commitment to God, the Church and humanity. The Holy Eucharist, presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Asiedu, offered the faithful an opportunity to thank God for the grace, dedication and service that have characterised Msgr. Kpeglo’s six decades in the priesthood.

The joyful anniversary celebration was held on 28th August 2026 at Our Lady of Fatima School, Kpong, and brought together priests, religious sisters,  parishioners, friends, family members, Church leaders and well-wishers to give thanks to God for the life of Msgr. Pius Kpeglo

Welcoming the guests to the celebration, the Headmistress of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School, Kpong, Rev. Sr. Paulina Osei, HDR, congratulated Msgr. Kpeglo and thanked everyone for making time to celebrate with him. She said Msgr. Kpeglo has touched many lives and mentored several priests during his years of service to the Church. She also spoke about Msgr. Kpeglo’s vision for the development of a Church building at Our Lady of Fatima for the children of the school and the surrounding community. She noted that the project had already made significant progress and expressed gratitude to God, Msgr. Kpeglo, the Church Building Committee, and all those whose contributions had helped bring the vision this far.

In his homily, Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Asiedu reflected on the life and ministry of Msgr. Pius Kpeglo, drawing attention to two important qualities he said had been evident in the Monsignor’s priestly journey: humility and discipline. He recalled Msgr. Kpeglo’s service in various leadership positions in the Church, including his work as Vicar General, vocation director, and in other positions of responsibility. He said that despite the authority and responsibilities entrusted to him, Msgr. Kpeglo remained humble in his dealings with people.

Very Rev. Fr. Asiedu said those who had seen Msgr. Kpeglo working alongside the Bishop and l the Archbishop could testify to his humility. He described humility as a virtue that everyone could develop and encouraged the faithful not to allow positions, achievements or responsibilities to make them proud. He therefore encouraged Christians to learn from the example of people who serve with humility.

Very Rev. Fr. Asiedu spoke about discipline, describing it as an essential quality for success in life and in the priestly ministry. He noted that there are times when people do not need motivation or encouragement but the discipline to do what is right. He therefore urged priests and the faithful to remain disciplined, fair, and committed to their responsibilities.

Reflecting on the Gospel according to Matthew and the story of the man who attended the wedding feast without the appropriate garment, Very Rev. Fr. Asiedu reminded the congregation that being invited is not enough; Christians must also prepare themselves properly to meet the Lord. He said the story was a reminder that every believer must be spiritually prepared.

He explained that Msgr. Kpeglo’s 60th anniversary of priestly ordination should not only be viewed as a celebration of the past but also as a reminder to everyone about the need to prepare for eternity. He encouraged the faithful to use each day as an opportunity to examine their lives, correct their mistakes, and grow closer to God.

Very Rev. Fr. Asiedu urged the congregation to remain watchful and ready, since no one knows the day or hour when the Lord will call. He concluded by calling on the faithful to live with humility, discipline and readiness, while giving thanks to God for sustaining Msgr. Kpeglo through 60 years of faithful priestly service.

A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of Papal Blessings to members of the Church Building Committee in recognition of their contribution to the Church building project.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Dr. Victor Chawey expressed gratitude to God for the recognition and acknowledged the efforts of the many people who had supported the project. He said the achievement could not be attributed to the committee alone but was the result of the collective support and commitment of many individuals. He thanked all those who had contributed to the project in various ways and acknowledged their important role in bringing the vision forward.

The Holy Trinity Catholic Parish Choir, Agomanya, added joy to the celebration with beautiful songs. The Kresner Handmade Children’s Home, Otaten, Amasaman, also participated in the celebration, contributing to the warm atmosphere of the gathering.

The celebration ended with prayers and good wishes for continued strength, grace, and God’s blessings upon Msgr. Pius Kpeglo as he continues his service in the vineyard of the Lord.
