Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese Celebrates Ruby And Silver Jubilee Priestly Anniversaries
The celebration which was hosted by the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at Apowa also served this year’s co-workers day celebration.
Delivering the homily, Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Okine-Quartey, the Acting Rector, St. Paul’s Seminary, Sowutwoum (Accra), reflecting on John the Baptist as the patron of the season of Advent, urged the priests to use their ministry to mend relationships. He said, ” John the Baptist did what he was called to do with passion and like him, Priests must attend to their duties with passion.”
Fr. Okine-Quartey congratulated the Jubilarians and reminded them that the Priesthood is of universal value to God, the Church and themselves. They must therefore continue to cherish this gift as beneficiaries who hold the gift in earthen vessels.
He challenged the Priests to be unyielding, transparent and practising simplicity in their ministry after the example of St. John Baptist.
Most Rev. John the Baptist Attakruh, who presided over the celebration was full of gratitude to the Priests for the service to the Church and the Diocese.
Bishop Attakruh said, ” Your celebration is an encouragement to us. We know your challenges but the joy of this ministry overcomes every challenge.
Bishop Attakruh called on the Faithful to support the Priests and pray for them. He said, ” here are all your Priests in the whole Western Region. I wish we can have one Faithful, one Priest but that is not possible. Please forgive us when we go wrong and advise us, pray for us and love us. We, your Priests love you and it is your love that spare us on.”
As part of the celebration, a chasuble and undisclosed amount of money was given to the Jubilarians.
