St. Patrick’s R/C Bilingual Primary School at the Christ the King Cathedral Cluster of Schools in the Sunyani Diocese of the Bono Region recently won the inter-regional French competition dubbed: Concours de la Francophonie organised for Schools in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions.

The School came first among the Schools from the  Regions and eighth at the national level when it contested with all the 16 regions in the country at national level during la semaine de la Francophonie.

This French competition is organised yearly by Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) for French-speaking countries worldwide of which Ghana is an Associate member.

Mr. Michael Akornoba, the Brong Ahafo Regional Unit Head of French and formator of teachers of French, at the Centre Régional pour l’Enseignement du Français (Regional Centre for the Teaching of French-CREF), a Ghana France cooperation located in Sunyani, presented the certificate of participation to Nana Kwame Kuntuma, Nifahene of Sunyani. The Headmaster of the School was very happy for the success chalked by his School.

He assured Mr. Akornoba that the School will continue to work hard to intensify the learning of the French language.

Mr. Akornoba said the study of french in the School has put the School at a level where others are looking up to it which leaves a big responsibility for it to maintain the position and raise its image.

He said St. Patrick’s School is part of the 50 bilingual primary schools in Ghana, explaining that it is a Bilingual School because the learners study ICT, Mathematics and Science in French and the French language itself.

Mr. Akornoba thanked Nana Kwame Kuntuma Nifahene of Sunyani for promoting the French language in the School and in the Bono Region.

The participating students were given educational materials.

Mr. Akornoba Michael is also the stringer for The Catholic Standard.
