Korle-Bu St. Luke Catholic Church Acquires Land for New Church Building
The St. Luke Catholic Church community, Korle- Bu has acquired a site from the management of Korle- Bu teaching hospital to construct an extension of the church outside the main clinical zone.
In a sod cutting ceremony, members of the church gathered at the new site gathered with the presence of Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, one of the Auxiliary Bishops of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, to pray over the land and bless the site to officially begin construction.
In his address, the Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare expressed joy and gratitude to the management of the hospital and prayed for God’s blessings over the project.
He said, “All our lands our miracles… I believe that with this blessing the Lord will bless the land again since He is the one who builds, He will turn it round for us”.

Bishop Asare urged the members of the church to learn to maintain the property noting that, “… our churches are built nicely, our schools are built nicely but the maintenance is zero…”
He also made some suggestions to the construction plan, encouraging them to include a gallery and create more space for car packs.
Bishop Asare also commended them for including a space for the Missionary Children.
“I thank you so much for making room for the Missionary Children. Most of our churches there is no space for them so they put them somewhere”, he said.

Speaking on behalf of the hospital management, Dr. Michael Ntumi expressed gratitude to the church community for their contributions and support to the hospital.
He said, “St. Luke has been with us for a number of years and your role serves as an important component of our health system so the management thought it wise when you applied for a land to be allotted to you, the management deemed it fit to approve of it”.
Dr. Ntumi cited some challenges posed by the current location of the church in delivering health services and stated that the new location will offer opportunity for the church to “continue to serve this congregation without disrupting hospital operations or affecting patients’ care”
He added, “We trust that this location will provide peaceful and serene environment for worship while maintaining the efficiency of clinical services”.

During the ceremony, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, former CEO of the Korle- Bu teaching hospital also spoke about the good impacts the St. Luke Catholic church has had on the hospital and appreciated them for their contributions.
He said, “I have seen the impacts that they have made on the patients… coming to see patients, praying for patients, helping them in their difficult moments and even patients that are not even Catholics. The care that they extend reaches out to everybody.”
Dr. Ampomah also encouraged the members of the church to dedicate themselves to the success of the project.
The site plan for the construction of the church for St. Luke Catholic Church is a 600+ capacity building including a rectorate, an auditorium, sacristy, changing room, a hall for Missionary Children and a grotto.
