ACACA Madina Deanery Concert Supports Renovation of St. Paul’s Seminary Dormitory Units
The Madina Deanery Choir of the Accra Catholic Archdiocesan Choirs Association (ACACA) has organised a musical concert to raise funds towards the renovation of the dormitory units of St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary, Sowutuom.
The concert, held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish Hall Complex, brought together priests, choristers, parish representatives, benefactors and Catholic faithful in support of the seminary’s formation mission. The event was held under the theme, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,” Matthew 25:40. The Madina Deanery Choir was the host choir, while the St. Paul’s Seminary Choir was the guest choir.
Welcoming the guests, the Dean of Madina Deanery, Very Rev. Fr. Bernard Kyere, expressed appreciation to all who attended and supported the fundraising initiative. On behalf of the Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, his Auxiliary Bishops and the priests of the deanery, he warmly welcomed participants to the programme. He commended the commitment of the Accra Catholic Archdiocesan Choirs Association, particularly the Madina Deanery Choir, for initiating the project and helping to make the fundraising concert a reality.
Very Rev. Fr. Kyere explained that the dormitories of St. Paul’s Seminary were in deplorable condition and required urgent attention. He praised the Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Okine-Quartey, and his team for their efforts to improve the seminary and create a better environment for the formation of future priests. He urged patrons and supporters not to be discouraged by the amount raised so far but to remain hopeful and generous, stressing that faith could achieve great things. He encouraged the gathering to enjoy the musical performances while contributing towards the renovation project.
The purpose of the gathering was explained by the Secretary of ACACA-Madina Deanery, Ms. Ernestine Mensah-Pebi, who read a speech on behalf of the Chairperson of the ACACA Madina Deanery, Dr. Mrs. Jemima Evelyn Nartey. She explained that ACACA was committed to promoting sacred music during Masses and Church activities for the spiritual upliftment of parishioners. The deanery concert formed part of its annual activities and was organised specifically to support the renovation of the seminary dormitories.
Ms. Mensah-Pebi said the project was more than an effort to improve accommodation, describing it as an investment in the future of the Church because the seminarians were being prepared to become priests and leaders in the faith community. She appealed to individuals, parish communities, institutions and other benefactors to continue supporting the project through donations, sponsorships, pledges and advocacy. She also expressed appreciation to the music technicians, choristers and the concert planning committee for their sacrifices, dedication and hard work in making the programme possible. Quoting 2 Corinthians 9:7, she reminded supporters that, “God loves a cheerful giver,” and prayed for God’s blessings upon all benefactors, seminarians and participants.
The Chairman of the program, Augustine Asarfo-Adjei, Esq., said he accepted the invitation to chair the concert because he considered the fundraising initiative a worthy cause.
He said the theme from Matthew 25:40 provided a clear Christian instruction to help those in need, noting that the fundraising was not merely about improving the comfort of seminarians but also about creating a conducive environment for them to study, pray, reflect and prepare for priestly ministry.
He urged all present to respond generously to the needs of the seminary and expressed confidence that the support of benefactors, sponsors, choristers and participants would make the program fruitful.
The Vice Rector of St. Paul’s Seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. John Doe Dormah, expressed gratitude to the Dean of Madina Deanery, patrons, the ACACA Madina Deanery Choir and all supporters for organising the concert in aid of the seminary. He also thanked the Parish Priest of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Very Rev. Fr. De Dieu Ahorloo, SMA, for granting permission for the event to be held at the parish hall complex. He encouraged the faithful to continue supporting St. Paul’s Seminary and its mission of forming future priests for the Church.
The musical performances by the Madina Deanery Choir and the St. Paul’s Seminary Choir formed the central attraction of the evening, providing sacred music and an opportunity for the Catholic community to unite in support of priestly formation.
Among the priests present were the Rector of St. Paul’s Seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Okine-Quartey, Vice Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. John Doe Dormah, Dean of the Seminary, Rev. Fr. Isaac Agbenohevi, Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Francis Ward, Rev. Fr. Bernard Asomaning Manu, CSJ, Parish Priest in charge of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Oyibi, Academic Dean, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Mintah, and Registrar, Rev. Fr. Samuel Ussher Homiah. Executives of ACACA present included the President, Mr. Edward Opoku-Manu, Vice President, Mr. Michael Dankyi-Boanah, and Organiser, Mr. Eric Kweku Kovi. The President of the Madina Deanery Patrons, Dr. Miriam Rahintu, was also present.
