ST. THOMAS AQUINAS SHS APPEALS FOR SUPPORT TO TRANSFORM SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE

The Headmaster of St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, Rev. Fr. Dr. George Obeng Appah, has appealed to Old Toms, corporate organisations, institutions, individuals and friends of Catholic education to support the school’s development projects as part of its 75th anniversary fundraising campaign.

He made the appeal on October 2, 2026, at the Christ the King Hall, Cantonments, Accra, during the launch of the school’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Obeng Appah said the school had recorded significant growth in student numbers over the years, but its infrastructure had not kept pace with the increasing demand. He said urgent investment was needed to provide students with facilities that would support quality teaching and learning. He identified the modernisation of the school’s science laboratories as a major priority, explaining that the facilities needed to be upgraded to meet the demands of modern science education.

The Headmaster also outlined plans to renovate classroom blocks and dormitories and transform the learning environment to meet 21st-century standards. He said the school further needed a fully equipped E-Library and ICT Centre to enhance research, digital learning and access to educational resources.

Another key project is the establishment of a Legacy Endowment Fund to support brilliant but needy students. Rev. Fr. Dr. Obeng Appah said the fund would help deserving students whose families may struggle to meet the cost of their education. He therefore called on Old Toms in Ghana and abroad, corporate Ghana, institutions, individuals and other friends of the school to contribute generously to the fundraising campaign.

The Headmaster said the 75th anniversary should go beyond ceremonies and speeches and become an opportunity to leave behind meaningful projects that would serve students for many years to come.

The President of the Old Toms, Mr. Frederick Nii Noi Dowuona (OT 99), also urged members of the Aquinas community and friends of the school to support the fundraising campaign. He said the initiative was intended to help secure the future of the school and provide an environment where future generations could continue to receive quality education while being formed in integrity and discipline.

Mr. Dowuona encouraged Old Toms to see the anniversary as an opportunity to give back to the institution that helped shape their lives and to contribute to its continued growth. The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror (OT 90), also appealed to Old Toms and other stakeholders to support the school’s development programme.

He said the 75th anniversary should serve as a bridge between the school’s proud past and a greater future, stressing that the achievements of previous generations should inspire the present generation to invest in the institution.

Hon. Ahumah Djietror urged Old Toms and friends of Aquinas to come together to help provide the infrastructure and facilities required for the school’s continued growth. He also emphasised that the development of infrastructure should go hand in hand with the preservation of the values that have shaped generations of Aquinas students, particularly integrity, discipline, responsibility and service.

The fundraising campaign is therefore expected to mobilise resources for the school’s priority projects, including the Science and Innovation Complex, classroom and dormitory renovations, E-Library and ICT Centre, and the Legacy Endowment Fund.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Obeng Appah said the ultimate goal was to ensure that future students would inherit a St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School that was not only proud of its history but also properly equipped to meet the educational needs of the future. He therefore called on all stakeholders to make the 75th anniversary a lasting investment in the school when he said, “Let us not only celebrate Aquinas; let us rebuild Aquinas.”
