The Pope will close the month of May before the image of the Virgin gift from Germany

This is the Virgin Unleashing, an image from 1700 that Francis has been devoted to since he was a doctoral student in Germany. The only original replica arrives this May 31 at the Vatican gardens to close the “prayer marathon” called by the Pope to pray for the end of the pandemic.

The icon arrives in Rome from Augsburg, after a pilgrimage that began in 2015.

On the last day of May, the Vatican gardens will become an “open-air Marian shrine” in which Francis and hundreds of pilgrims, in connection with 30 shrines, will ask Our Lady to “untie the knots” of the current crisis.

The Pope launched the “prayer marathon” on May 1 in front of an image of the Virgen del Socorro in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Among the Marian shrines that will be connected live during the rosary, there is that of Kibeho in Rwanda; or Caacupé in Paraguay.

Probably that same day the Pope will announce to which place that special image of the Virgin Unleashed will be destined.
