Rome prepares to welcome pilgrims from the USA again

For more than a year, the streets of Rome have been closed to many foreign pilgrims.
Among them American Catholics, who have not been able to make one of the most popular pilgrimages.

“The pilgrimage to Rome is very important for Catholicism around the world. In the past we saw a large number of pilgrims especially from the United States and from the entire Western Hemisphere ”.
Father Steven Petroff is the rector of St. Patrick’s Church in Rome, the home of American pilgrims traveling to the Eternal City.
For a year, his church has been practically empty, waiting for the pilgrims to refill their pews.
St. Patrick’s Church offers a family atmosphere to Americans visiting Rome, a family he hopes to reunite soon.

“For example, the flight attendants would come and say that they loved being here because they know it is like being at home even if they are on the other side of the world, in the United States. That is the sense of family ”.
From May 16, Americans traveling to Italy on COVID-tested flights will no longer have to pass quarantine. Father Petroff hopes that the pilgrims will take the opportunity to admire the wonders of Rome.

“I hope to see the pilgrims return safely, vaccinated, and come back and enjoy the beauty that this city offers them, connect with the Holy Father, be present in his audience and celebrate with us here ”.
On May 12, Pope Francis once again received the pilgrims for his weekly audience. With nearly 40% of the United States population vaccinated, American Catholics could see the Pope in person again very soon.
