” … as Bishop of Rome and as an old man like you, I would like to address you.”
Pope Francis asks you to get involved in this phase of rebuilding the world after the pandemic and to recognize what your vocation is today.
FRANCISCO
“I myself can testify that I received the call to be bishop of Rome when I had reached, so to speak, the age of retirement, and I already imagined that I could not do much more.”
In his special message, the Pope challenges them to discover that they have the vocation to guard the roots, transmit the faith to the young and take care of the little ones.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell has presented the Pope’s message at the Vatican.
CARD. KEVIN FARRELL
President, Dicastery Laity, Family and Life
” The elderly are an enormous resource to get out of the crisis in which we find ourselves, to come out better and not worse.”
The Vatican has invited an 88-year-old lady to present the Pope’s message. She works as a volunteer, and maintains contact with elderly women and men so that they do not feel alone.
MARIA SOFIA SOLI
“ Helping elderly people who are alone, keeping them company even with just one call, makes me feel that I am useful at my age. Sometimes we get carried away by melancholy, resentment and sadness ”. + FLASH 00:54 “We also feel the need to contribute so that this crisis is not wasted, to lead humanity to a better future, with less selfishness and confrontations.”
The message serves to prepare the next World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly, which is celebrated on July 25.
That day the Pope will celebrate a mass in San Pedro with grandparents and grandmothers.
In addition, it has granted special indulgences to those who have a specific gesture of affection with their own grandparents or with an elderly person around that date.
