Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, Catholic Bishop of Keta-Akatsi Diocese has called on the Catholic community to support the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), to stand, to enable the projects of the symposium to succeed.
This comes at a time the symposium gets ready to commemorate SECAM DAY on July 29, 2021. This day is set aside for all members of the Church in Africa to thank God for the gift of Christians, and Mother Africa.
In line with the decision taken at the Plenary Assembly of SECAM in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in July 2013, the day is an occasion to speak about the SECAM to enable Catholics throughout the continent and the Islands to become more informed about its existence, work and mission to promote its role as a sign and instrument of salvation, to build the Church as the family of God in Africa and to preserve and promote the communion, collaboration and common action of the Catholic Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Islands.
Speaking on behalf of SECAM, Bishop Kumordji encouraged individuals and groups to support the work of SECAM through monetary aid to ensure that the good work of the SECAM continues.
In a goodwill message, Bishop Kumordji stated that all Africans are commissioned by baptism to proclaim the Word of God. Hence, Christians should not wait for priests, religious men, and women alone to proclaim the kingdom of Christ but a responsibility to all. The Bishop further stated that when the Gospel enters the lives of our people we are hoping that it will transform them he added.
Speaking to Christians in authority, the Bishop of Keta-Akatsi Diocese admonished government officials and society to allow the message of the Gospel of the Lord to transform their ways and to look first out for the betterment of the people. “Though systems are very necessary, if there is no change of heart that officials are dedicated to the good of others, we will still be swimming in poverty”. He stated.
He expressed thanks to dioceses who despite COVID 19 have contributed to helping the symposium stand on its feet.
The Symposium is composed of 8 regional Episcopal Conferences of Africa and the Islands. ACEC, ACHE,ACERCA,AMECEA, CEDOI,CERNA, IMBISA,and RECOWA.
