Ghana wants to walk hand-in-hand with North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany – Akufo-Addo

On Monday, 23 August 2021, at the invitation at the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herr Armin Laschet, Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, participated in the 75th-anniversary celebrations of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous region and her greatest industrial region.

Nana Akufo-Addo indicated in his speech that the Ghanaian people are drawing inspiration from the success stories of North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany, because, likewise, “we want to build a progressive and prosperous country.”

He cited an African proverb, which says: ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together’ to explain that Ghanaians have resolved to walk hand-in-hand with North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany “because we desire to walk far, especially as we share attachments to common values of respect for individual liberties and human rights, of respect for the rule of law, and of respect for the principles of democratic accountability.”

Nana Akufo-Addo is in Germany for a seven-day official visit at the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel aimed at deepening the bond of friendship between the two nations.

Mr Akufo-Addo is also expected to meet with the management of Pfizer to seek to secure more COVID-19 vaccines for Ghana to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

He will also address the meeting of the German investment community and participate in the G-20 Compact initiative programme.
