“We Need More People to Say Yes to the Call of God” – Rev. Fr. Donatus Palu

The Parochial Administrator of St. Maurice Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Donatus Pallu, has called on young people to embrace the call of God wholeheartedly. In an interview with DEPSOCOM, Accra, during the 2025 Archdiocesan Diaconate Ordination held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Atomic, he expressed concern about the decline in the number of ordained deacons compared to the previous year.

“This year, we have fewer deacons ordained than last year, which saw 17 young men dedicate themselves to serve God and humanity,” Fr. Pallu noted. “We need more individuals to make themselves available to work for God, just as Jesus committed Himself to the service of humanity. It is not an easy path, but it is worth it.”

Addressing the aspirations of the youth, he remarked, “I know many young people have dreams and goals, but I believe there is no greater dream than working in the Lord’s vineyard.”

The ordination ceremony saw seven young men from the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra elevated to the Order of Deacons.

Deacons hold a vital role in the Catholic Church as ordained ministers within the threefold hierarchy of Holy Orders: deacons, priests, and bishops. They serve as a bridge between the clergy and the laity, emphasizing service to both the Church and the broader community. Deacons play a crucial part in the mission of the Church, embodying the spirit of care and service.

Fr. Pallu’s call serves as a timely reminder of the importance of vocations in strengthening the Church’s mission and fostering spiritual growth among the faithful.
