Christian Mothers Urged to Let Their Light Shine at Archdiocesan Retreat

On Sunday, 22nd February 2026, Christian Mothers across the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra gathered at St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, Abeka, for a spiritual retreat under the theme “Christian Mothers – Let Your Light Shine, So That God May Be Glorified” (Matthew 5:16).

The retreat brought together members of the Christian Mothers Association, Christian Fathers, Christian Daughters, and Christian Sons from various parishes across the Archdiocese for a day of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal.

Delivering the main reflection, the Retreat Master, Rev. Fr. Dominic Adjei of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Weija, encouraged Christian Mothers to allow the light of Christ to shine through their lives and relationships.

He reminded participants that Christian Mothers carry both spiritual and physical light and are called to reflect Christ in their families, communities, and workplaces. He noted that this can be achieved through acts of kindness and generosity, sharing God’s word and love, modelling Christ-like behaviour, and using their gifts, knowledge, skills, and talents in service to God and humanity.

According to him, the good deeds and actions of Christian Mothers make God’s light visible in the world and ultimately bring glory to Him. He emphasized that Christian Mothers are instruments and co-workers in God’s vineyard and therefore must allow their light to shine wherever they find themselves.

The retreat featured several spiritual activities aimed at deepening the faith of participants. These included the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary recitals led by designated deaneries, and the Stations of the Cross, which was led by Rev. Fr. Dominic Adjei.

The day’s programme was climaxed with the celebration of Holy Mass presided over by the Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Acheampong, Parish Priest of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Dominic Adjei and Rev. Fr. Dodzi Gadessordji, Parish Priest of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Fishpond, who also serves as the Spiritual Director of the Kaneshie Deanery Christian Mothers Association.

As part of the closing ceremony, the Mother President, Eunice Dumashie, led all Christian Mothers, Fathers, Daughters, and Sons in renewing their pledge of commitment to the Association.

The retreat ended on a spiritually uplifting note, with participants encouraged to continue living out their Christian vocation by letting their light shine in their families, communities, and society for the greater glory of God.
