“Don’t Let Church Buildings Distract Your Worship” – Bishop Asare Tells Our Lady of Lourdes Parishioners

Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, one of the Auxiliary Bishops of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, has urged Catholics to let their focus be on the essence of true worship rather than church buildings.

Preaching during his pastoral visit to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Sowutuom, on Sunday, July 6, 2025, Bishop Asare reminded parishioners that authentic faith must always take precedence over physical structures.

He said, “As long as there is a roof over your head, that is enough to worship God”, drawing attention to the fact that the heart of worship lies in devotion, not in grandeur.

Bishop Asare acknowledged the parish’s close relationship with St. Paul’s Major Seminary, encouraging them to look beyond construction and focus on nurturing vocations.

“You are near the seminary where there are many prayers. I would rather this community gives us priests and religious,” he said.

He also called on all parishioners who give their time, talent, and resources to the Church to do so with heavenly motives.

“Those who give or work for the Church should always seek their reward from heaven and not from men,” he advised.

He went on to assure the faithful that God never forgets their sacrifices, even if recognition does not come in their lifetime.

“Keep working and giving willingly to God. Your reward will come, if not to you, then to your descendants,” he emphasized.

He added, “Work behind the scenes, and the Lord will bless you.”
